Ovocal-DX Tablet combines Calcium Carbonate sourced from European eggshells with Vitamin D3.
It's indicated for various conditions related to bone health, including osteoporosis, osteomalacia, osteopenia, rickets, hypoparathyroidism, and latent tetany. It's also used in conditions requiring adequate calcium and vitamin D3, such as pregnancy, lactation, post-menopausal osteoporosis, and senile osteoporosis.
The formulation includes essential salts and minerals for bone development, including magnesium, phosphorus, and strontium, enhancing bone density and organic matrix fixation of calcium.
Calcium is crucial for bone, nerve, muscle, and organ function. Vitamin D3 aids calcium absorption, essential for maintaining strong bones and muscles. It's essential to consult a physician before use in children and adolescents.
Heartburn, Indigestion, Calcium deficiency, Hypocalcaemia, Hyperphosphatemia, Calcium supplement, Stomach upset
Common side effects include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, and hypercalcemia. Gastric hypersecretion and acid rebound may occur with prolonged use.
The adult dose varies depending on the condition being treated. For hyperacidity, 1-2 tablets can be taken as needed, up to a maximum of 16 tablets per day. For hyperphosphatemia in chronic renal failure, the initial dose is 2.5 g/day, which can be increased up to 17 g/day in divided doses. In patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments may be necessary based on serum calcium levels.
However, caution is advised in certain conditions. Patients with calcium renal calculi or a history of renal calculi, hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, or suspected digoxin toxicity should avoid this medication.
Several interactions are known with this medication. Co-administration with thiazide diuretics or vitamin D may lead to milk-alkali syndrome and hypercalcemia. It decreases the absorption of various medications such as corticosteroids, tetracyclines, atenolol, iron, quinolones, alendronate, sodium fluoride, zinc, and calcium channel blockers. Additionally, it enhances the cardiac effects of digitalis glycosides and may precipitate digitalis intoxication
It's contraindicated in hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypersensitivity to its components, severe renal insufficiency, and concomitant digoxin therapy.
During pregnancy and lactation, Ovocal-DX Tablet should be used as directed by a physician. Precautions include discontinuing the drug in case of hypercalcemia and advising patients with a history of kidney stone formation to increase fluid intake.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, and weakness.
Precautions should be taken in patients with renal impairment, hypoparathyroid disease, or hypercalcemia-associated diseases. Calcium absorption is impaired in achlorhydria, so using an alternate salt and taking it with food is recommended. It's also advised to be cautious when using this medication in patients with a history of kidney stones.
Store Ovocal-DX Tablet in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light, and out of reach of children.
